A look with The Balm : Meet Matt(e)!

This palette from The Balm is one of the birthday presents i got from Shah this year (thanks Bengbeng!).

I do love matte neutrals, whereas this palette has a variety of NINE matte colours. I'm still getting used to the idea of warm and cool colours, but i have to say these are mostly, if not all, quite cool. My skin tone is quite warm so i've always preferred warmer colours. But i'm a sucker for The Balm. This seems to be one of their hottest products now - aside from Nude'tude of course, which was also one of my presents!

I was torn between Shady Lady Vol. 3 and this one at the time. In the end, the payer won. I don't blame my husband for being put off by the bright colours of Shady Lady Vol. 3, but who's to say i won't get my hands on them in the future?

I did some playing around with the palette recently. I'm not loving the look i came up with, to be honest, i considered not writing a post about it. But at the end of the day, i want to share the feel of the palette. If you have some pink to your skin, the colours might look better on you. For example, Jealous Jordana looks much better on me than Matt Schilling. But it was fun to play around with Meet Matt(e) all the same!

1. After foundation and prepping your lids, apply Matt Smith all over your lids, up to your browbone.

2. Tilt your head backwards while looking into the mirror to find your eye socket. Instead of applying a colour right into the hollow, i applied it higher up on the browbone so that when you look straight ahead, the colour is very much visible. Use Matt Ramirez here.

3. Then pack some Matt Gallagher onto the lids. Don't overlap the Matt Ramirez.

4. Highlight the browbone with Sassy from the Nude'tude palette. I used Sassy because Meet Matt(e) has no suitable highlight colour for me and also because i want to add a little bit of shimmer onto my eyes.

5. I just got this Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jungle Green, which i really wanted to try out. Since this was going onto my waterline, i wanted to shade in a similar colour on my lower lashline.

The closest colours to it from Meet Matt(e) are Matt Horowitz and Matt Schilling, so i just used both! First i shaded in Matt Schilling in the inner corner, going about a half in.

Then Matt Horowitz went to the outer half. Blend in with Matt Schilling as well.

6. Line the waterline with Jungle Green.

7. Apply concealer under the eyes.

8. With a flat brush, i picked up more of Matt Horowitz and extend the line from the lower lashline to my crease, just to dramatize the look a little.

9. Colour in your eyebrows with a brown shadow.

10. Line your top lashline with a brown gel liner - i felt like black would be too harsh. I used Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Brown and utilized the brush it came with.

11. Put some mascara on.

12. Counteract all the cool tones on your eyes with a warmer colour on the cheeks. I used Majolica Majorca Puff de Cheeks in CR302.

13. Now for the lips - i wanted to make use of my new Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner Definer in Eastend Snob so that went on my lips first, at first as a liner then used to fill in my entire lips.

Next went on Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rose Velvet.

My lips are so easily dried these days, so gloss is a must! I'm really loving my latest lipgloss from Stage, their Wondergloss Lipgloss in Persephone. It's a bright, slightly shimmery deep baby pink. Here i just tinted my lips with it, just enough to cover my lips in a thin layer.

Now it's done!
