Striped Maxi Skirt

People usually associate vertical stripes in fashion with Beetlejuice, the guy that you love to hate but love anyway (note: If it's Robin Thicke at the VMA's you think of when you see them stripes, just.....no).

But as I looked at myself in the mirror wearing this striped maxi skirt, I didn't think of the devilishly annoying ghost but I felt more of a connection with Obelixof Asterix and Obelix.

I really liked the 'idea' of this skirt when I first bought it; after all, the vertical stripes trend made such a big entrance into the style arena last year. But, a trend that reminds you of either a ghost or a comedic cartoon character? Hmmm. (Hence, my bad take on Shakepeare's Hamlet's line.)

All reminders aside, seriously, a billowy, high-waisted, A-line, vertically-striped maxi skirt is one of the hardest things to wear and to match, as I discovered with this one.

Black t-shirt: Pull & Bear | Sleeveless denim jacket: Twins de Castle | Skirt: Girlies Barn

It was in my closet for ages and ages; I kept trying it on with different tops but I didn't really like most of the pairings. Finally, matching the skirt with a plain black long-sleeved tee and my sleeveless denim jacket seemed to look the most OK.

At the end of this exact day, I handed the skirt to my sister, who already loves the skirt more than I ever did.
Nope. No regret.
