Makeup & Beauty Things From Japan

Four little cutesy things and two big beauty buys from Tokyo.

If there is one thing I learned from my Tokyo trips, the makeup and beauty aisles at the local pharmacies / drugstores can be overwhelming; they're just absolutely crammed with products and if you don't speak and read Japanese, chances are you'd either:
- give up and not buy anything, or
- buy too many things that you don't need (or even really want later on)

To have Internet on the go would be the best thing when you're makeup-and-beauty-shopping but I never did have that in Japan (didn't have a proper real need for it, to be honest), so a little pre-study on the best of the best of Japanese beauty things is always necessary for me before I make my my trips to the pharmacies.

One thing about the makeup scene is Malaysia is we get lots of brands from Japan and Korea, two of the countries with leading makeup industries in Asia, so basically this fact = AWESOME. The four little things I have here are all available in Malaysia (you can find them in Sasa or Watsons), and they are:
  • Canmake Cream Cheek blush in shade 14
  • Heroine Make Long and Curl mascara (Super Waterproof)
  • Heroine Make Mascara Remover
  • Kate Eyebrow Color in BR-1
If they're all in Malaysia, why did I even bother lugging them all the way from Japan, you ask?

Well, just like how Zara is cheaper is in its birthcountrythese makeup products are total bargains in Japan! Each of them costs RM10-15 cheaper than its retail price in Malaysia, so I've saved quite a bit there.

But you can't have everything you want in life, like the time and money to go to Japan whenever you want just to top up your depleted makeup goodies, so at least us Malaysians have the opportunity to re-stock locally!

Aside from the four little makeup things, I bought a bottle of the infamous (well, it's supposed to be infamous there) Natural Aqua Gel Cure (or is it Cure Natural Aqua Gel...?) and this humongous bottle of Shiseido shampoo as well.

I might do a review on some of these products so keep your eyes peeled!

  1. The Heroine Mascaras are GENIUS. When I was in Malaysia, I purchased the entire stock from Sasa LOL now I can get them on Amazon as well as Sasa.com but no regrets whatsoever. They work wonders, albeit a little tough to remove until I started using the Weloveeyes line which is another godsend in its own right :) loving the new site look incidentally xo

    1. Did you get the mascara remover as well? I haven't tried it out actually, but hoping that it really does its job, so that my job of taking the mascara off gets easier! I've never heard of the brand Weloveeyes but I just checked out their site, it looks interesting.

Thank you, I'm so glad you like the new look too!

    2. No, I forgot :( but I have it in my Amazon cart (thank you, god, for online shopping) although I doubt I'll be purchasing it because I'm moving over to a green lifestyle, and the Weloveeyes products meet all my criteria for the latter option. I've had to make drastic changes to diet and lifestyle due to some recently diagnosed autoimmune disorders :) incidentally, I've been meaning to tell you, I can't tick the Notify Me button anymore because of the additional anti-robot step which requires me to verify that I'm a human prior to posting my response. Grr face.

    3. I read that you're dealing with some health issues on your blog, and I do hope you're doing and coping well over there, I really do.

And also, I hope you had a nice trip to Malaysia, too! Did you get to eat all the local delish stuffs while you were here?

I'm sorry about the notifying button, I wish I knew how to get rid of it, but ahhh I don't =(

    4. I won the lottery in terms of autoimmune conditions, I did :) Urticaria, Hashimato's, Hypothyroid, Hypertension, Angioedema, and most recently, Lupus. Ah well, it is what it is, right? I simply have to adjust and learn to manage things. Yes, I've been home for precisely a month now. I did manage to eat MOST of what I'd been craving for. Sadly, durian only once since no one else appreciates it, sniff. Not even my own Sarawakian family. Oy. I was in KL for a few days as my brother lectures at Monash and KDU, and I wrote a note to you via IG to see if we could meet up. When I didn't hear from you, I figured technology must have let us down, and at which point, it was time for us to go. Lain kali :) XOXOXO p/s no worries about the button, I wasn't certain if you knew :)

    5. Oh dear oh dear. To be honest I've never heard half of those conditions. I'm so sorry to hear that. You seem like a trooper though, so I have this feeling that you're taking everything in stride.

Oh no, did you really message me? I didn't get any notification or anything, but, oh man, it would have been nice for us to meet face to face. Yes, as you say, lain kali!

By the way, I LOVE durian. Do you know about this buffet-style durian place in PJ? It's not really buffet, I mean, it's not like you pay and eat as much durian as you could - it USED to be like that - but now it's just a bunch of durian stalls in one place, and people eat durian at the roadside, and drink fresh coconut juice with it. Imagine bringing your family there!

But yes, next time you're in KL, just let me know, and we can arrange something. Maybe not to the durian stalls straight away, I think it'd be pretty awkward to bring someone you're meeting for the first time to eat durian... ;)
