Disney At Heart Forever (Or...Not?)

Most of the nostalgic animated Disney movies of my childhood left a lasting mark on me — longer than most people I know. I recently asked my 12-year-old niece if she still likes Disney princesses and she said "Nope", and when asked "Did you grow out of them" she vehemently said "YES."

Well, I just turned 32 like a week ago and I see no sign of me growing out of this "phase".
PS: I plan on totally Disneybounding on my next trip to Disneyland.

There's just something about Disney movies. I love the newer ones too (Moana absolutely stole my heart) but I could watch the older ones from the 20th century over and over again; their pure magic always manages to bring me back to a simpler and more innocent time of my life, and reminds e to always be hopeful.

At what age is it NOT good to experience all the feels like these, amiright?
I don't know how else to explain my affinity for Disney products especially the fashion related ones. Maybe you've seen my Cinderella oversized top or my Alice In Wonderland clutch? How about my Snow White denim jacket? I can't say no to Mickey and gang either, nope — just can't get enough of 'em.

PS: I also have a collection of Disney mugs, fyi.

Which is why when I saw these Disney socks in Topshop, I couldn't resist adding them to my Disney collection. I may have also gotten a bunch of their — ehem — Disney delicate undergarments, but they're a bit TMI to be photographed and shared here so I'll just leave you with pics of my Snow White, Ariel and Dumbo socks, if you don't mind.

Which are your favourite old-school Disney movies? Mine are Mulan, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, The Lion King, but at this point I would be naming almost all of them but oh let's not forget the half-animated Mary Poppins, too!

So, important question: At what age should a person stop wearing Disney items? I want to say forever, but hit me with your thoughts on this! ❤

    1. Well, I just fell down the rabbit hole of Disneybounding - everyone looks like they're having so much fun! Your love of wearing Disney pieces seems to fit in really well with your love of bold colour and print, so I say keep it up! I haven't watched a Disney movie in ages, but Sleeping Beauty was one of my faves. Love that old school animation!

      1. Hi Chloe!

If I had let myself go on and on I would've named Sleeping Beauty too. I have a niece who is 5 so she's the one entertaining my talks about Disney Princesses, can you believe it?

I wish I had discovered Disneybounding sooner, back when I was able to visit them frequently! It really does look like a wholeee load of fun.

Thank you for the vote of confidence, I am relieved to know that the "Disney look" is a natural one for me! And thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I truly appreciate it <3

    2. You should NEVER give up wearing your Disney items Liyana!
I remember being completely smitten when I saw Sleeping Beauty. Everything about it was enchanting, romantic, hopeful, and delightful. I sang the song, " I know you, I've dancedw ith you once upon a dream..." I told my friends about the story and daydreamed about my prince coming. Mind you, there were NO movie toys, games or socks in those days. They did make little colorful vinyl records with music from the film ( one song on a side).
You don't need anyone's stamp of approval to nurture and maintain your hopeful, romantic, loving heart. You won't be alone reaping the rewards of keeping the child in you alive either.
I loved this post. I had no idea that Disney-bounding was a "thing"!
      Love, Jude

      1. First of all, I am SO VERY glad you loved this post, Judy! I had typed it up and let it stayed as a draft for a while, because I wasn't sure if I should even be blogging about my Disney socks, but I have no regret about clicking the "Publish" button now!

I LOVED Once Upon A Dream, I actually sing it ALL the time, I'm not even kidding. Did you buy the vinyl then? If you did, I hope you still have it!

Disney definitely learned that merchandising pays off over time, don't they? I see people get crazy in the stores at Disneyland trying to buy as many things as possible. (Full disclosure: I might have been one of them, oops.)

I'm happy that you approve of my wanting to continue wearing my Disney things. To be honest I can't imagine wearing my Cinderella top when I'm 40 but who knows? I sincerely hope I will still feel hopeful and romantic enough then to just put it on confidently. And of course, I plan to keep that inner child in me alive as long as possible! Thank you for your advices, dear Judy <3

PS: I only learned about Disneybounding last year, (oddly) from John Stamos' then girlfriend and now fiancee who is apparently a huge Disney-lover!
