Around The Web: Feminism, Fast Fashion Woes & Fonts

One thing I got into the habit of doing before my sleeping time is to read short articles. A bad habit according to science, but it's so addictive, guys. Perhaps I need an intervention?

Combined that with my incessant blog-reading during the day (reminder: I am a stay-at-home wife, hence, the free time), I've stumbled upon plenty of interesting articles that tickled my fancy and are worth sharing.

Here are some of the recent ones, hope you enjoy reading them as I did!

How The Tiny Powerpuff Girls Became Huge Feminist Icons
Remember the weekly viewing of three cute little girls with contrasting personalities defeating the evil in their world when you were small? Then growing up to understand that all those while feminism was staring at you in the face — you just didn't know it yet.

Grateful
Lyn Slate of Accidental Icon touched on why brands like H&M are still thriving despite the growing exposure to the sustainability (and ethical, may I add) issue of fashion.

This Is What A Feminist Looks Like
Wit & Delight explores the concept of being a different kind of feminist than your feminist peers, without diminishing the efforts of other feminists with different principles than yours.

Why Fashion Brands All Seem To Be Using The Same Font
Why am I including an article on...fonts? Full disclosure: I am uhbsessed with fonts. I get a kick out of browsing Google Fonts. (Another thing I need intervention for, maybe. Also: I wonder if other bloggers love looking at fonts as much as I do?)

I Watched D&G's China Show Fall Apart From The Inside
If you keep up with the news of the fashion world or pop culture even, you must know about the downfall of Dolce & Gabbana. This is a gripping insider's account and an especially saucy read for those who are well-versed in the drama!

I don't tweet out often and am not as active on the platform as I am on Instagram, but I retweet a lot of interesting articles and other fun stuff, so how about following me on Twitter regardless? Don't forget to say "Hi!" if you've followed me there through this post

  1. Liyana, how is reading short articles a bad habit? Hahah. I think it's a smart habit to have if you're pressed for time. There are books to read too but why limit yourself to content with chapters when you can devour every type of content. Why not just be the full blown book worm that you are. I must say I know nothing about the D&G fall at all until I came here. H&M is meh, I'd rather go thrifting! Love the outfit you are wearing here and that smile! So happy :) And adorable! Urghhhhh xoxoxo

    1. I should've been clearer! I meant that reading articles on your phone when you're sitting in bed right before bedtime is a bad idea, because it activates your brain and it'd be harder for you to fall asleep.

I agree with you, H&M is meh nowadays. I still go shop there but it's getting harder to find something I truly like. I loved thrifting overseas but I haven't found a second-hand store I'm in love with, yet. Are there a lot where you live? I'm sure there's a lot in PJ and KL but I haven't had time to explore yet!

  2. Very interesting articles Liyana. I think I've become more of a feminist as I age. I am deeply saddened and frustrated by the plight of so many woman who struggle for freedoms I take for granted. Thank you for sharing these articles. Love, Jude

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed reading them, Judy. You're right, some women are just luckier, or, I suppose more privileged, than the others, and we do take it for granted - including me - until we learn about others' plight.
