Dressing Up For Downtime At Home

As a blogger who's been an avid follower of blogs for over a decade, I used to marvel at pictures of people all dressed up with makeup on inside the comfort of their home. The idea of dressing-up to me was all about a nice day out, not for lounging on my couch or eating a simple egg sandwich or something at my dining table for lunch.

I'd be scrolling through these bloggers' pretty photogenic selves while glancing down at my ratty old t-shirt and comfy pants and wondering if I would ever gather enough energy to be as wholesome as them someday.
Until one day it occurred to me, "Oh, it's purely for content. Duh, Liyana."

Although it's been years since I realised that, it didn't stop me from admiring the same kind of photos; there's just something inspirational and uplifting about them to me. I doubt everyone would agree with me on this, but it's perfectly cool if we agree to disagree; my kind of content probably isn't your kind of content, but I happen to believe in the whole "find your tribe" through social media mantra and all. Some people prefer seeing more real-life pics on their feed, while others are drawn to visuals that had care and precision put into them. But then again I do like a fun mix of both, though, because "realness" is an important Internet daily dose for me too!

With lockdowns going on, I still wanted to put some content out there on my own blog, so I set aside a day to shoot my day of flower-arranging. Usually I'd be in my regular t-shirt and shorts or something similar for this day, but since I wanted to make it a "Shoot Day" I decided to emulate those bloggers I've admired for years and put on my going-out clothes (plus makeup!) for downtime at home instead.

Oh, and a confession: I changed back into my home clothes a short while after taking a satisfactory number of snaps. This is still real-life, after all, and I'd rather be in my lounge pants while eating a bowl of pasta, you know what I'm saying?

Thanks for reading this post! Until my next one ❤

  1. Your flower-arranging session is looking great, girl. Your outfit is perfectly styled as is your space. I don't know how you do it but I'm in awe and inspired. I do appreciate a bit of a realness in most of the feeds I follow on insta. I am afraid of that meticulousness some ladies display because I am far from it. LOL. As for color clashes and fun prints, I don't know why, but you're one of the few that I gravitate to because there's just some type of vibrant energy in your OOTD coordination and you, yourself, I feel. I hope you're well and keeping fit, happy and healthy :D xoxo

    1. Oh my goodness, Shanaz, I think you just gifted me with one of the kindest compliments I've ever received. I'm humbled, really. Sometimes when I scroll through my Instagram, I look at other people's photos and wish I could do what they do or be like them, but your comment is a reminder that I should always just be myself. Thank you so much for that. <3

I am far from those meticulous-looking women too but I suspect most of them change into sweatpants or something the moment they get some good snaps, too! It's probably just an unspoken but understood thing, lol!

I hope you're keeping fit and happy and healthy too! I don't like to venture out of the house too much so I'm trying to fit in as much at-home workout as my lazy bum would allow =D

  2. Very glad you love them, Humaira! Thank you for checking this post out =D
