Shades of Red @ Shibuya, Tokyo

There's a part of me that's still going, "Wait. A. Minute. I'm in Japan? Really? Really?". It's a very familiar sentiment because I had experienced the exact same thing when I arrived in Paris in October 2012. 

I felt out of place at first, seeing the local people walking around and thinking how I look nothing like them, with me in my hijab and in the way I dress. But then I'm six days in in Tokyo and I have the same feeling as I had a week after settling in Paris: I already feel at home.

It's truly a privilege, to be able to visit different parts of the world. Trust me, we had no idea that Shah's job would take him to places like it has; travelling for his work is the icing on the cake, and for him to be able to bring me along is the chocolate-covered cherry on top of the icing of the cake. This is something that we're incredibly grateful for, and we try to remember to be thankful each and every day.

First Paris + Europe, and now I'm in one of the most fashionable cities in Asia—if not the most fashionable city (is that the wrath of K-Pop enthusiasts I feel? Scarily chilly...).

Shah and I took a train to Shibuya, walked around aimlessly for the fun of it and strolled into these brightly-lit streets. We can't read or speak Japanese so it is entirely possible for us to walk into a dodgy part of Tokyo, but I'm guessing it's always OK to trust where the crowd goes (right? Um , is it OK, right?).
