Patched Jeans & Grey Duster Coat | A Woeful Story Regarding My Blog

Lately I've been feeling my glasses a lot more than usual - so much that I don't mind in the least wearing them for my outfit shoots, which is a nice change (unlike back when I really wasn't a fan of glasses).
You might be seeing more of them in lieu of contact lens in this space, so I'm reeeaaally hoping you're feeling them, too.

Other things I've been feeling? Ripped jeans and patched jeans (and rips and patches both in one pair of jeans, of course).

I saw these particular patched jeans on a mannequin in H&M and I knew I had to have it. Pairing them with one of my latest Adidas additions, whose motifs feel very kimono-inspired so obvs I'm uhbsessed with 'em, and this oversized duster which is super-thin so it's not that crazy to wear in Malaysia (or perhaps I looked crazy to some, who knows).

Wearing: Mitsumaru Emsexcite (Shibuya 109) duster (previously worn here)  |  Factorie t-shirt  |  H&M patched jeans  |  Adidas Stan Smith shoes

On another note, if you're a regular reader, you might know that I've recently changed my blog look, but I have major concerns about the drop in the number of my daily readers; it's pretty significant, so I suspect my blog template isn't SEO-optimized (terribly non-optimized, I'd say), which really isn't great at all! I did notice the codes were a little all over the place after I bought it, so I have to say I'm disappointed, since obviously this template wasn't free (it really was not).

It's such a frustrating process to change my blog look (I should know, I've done it too many times!) but I might have to consider changing it yet again *crying on the inside*. I'm not aiming to be Chiara or Nicole Warne, but I do put in pieces of my heart and soul into this little space so ideally I would love to reach as many people as I can, and perhaps inspire people positively in any way that I can.

All I can say for now is: wish me luck, guys!

UPDATE: I literally JUST changed my blog template - to a much, much simpler one. I still need to do some tweaking but for now I'm happy with this new look - we'll see how this new one goes. Hoping for the best XO

  1. Hello Liyana,
I have been following your blog for at least 3 months and commenting only by replying via email. The way (format?-not sure) I received your blog led me to think I could only send an email reply. Thus, I never saw anyone else's comments or your responses to them and I thought that just wasn't an option on your blog!
Today, after reading your feelings of dismay at losing followers I thought I'd explore other avenues and I managed to get to your official site!
At 64 I'm not that blog savvy, having begun following Samantha at Fake Fabulous in February(?) In fact it was through her that I discovered you! I doubt that my problems have any bearing on your blog following but in case it helps you I wanted you to know...
I also want you to know what a wonderful writer I think you are. I also love your fashion stylings and have enjoyed learning about your Muslim traditions and holidays.
You look very cute in your glasses! I wear them too and they're such a fun fashion accessory these days. I currently have 4 pairs that I cycle through! I absolutely LOVE your sneakers; the pattern in them is fun and you seem to have a similar pattern in your shirt! Very cool.
Take heart Liyana, you will find your niche and followers. Since I've never read a reply to my comments I'm hoping to hear from you this time!
Good wishes to you my dear!

    1. Hello Marilee,

I'm sincerely, sincerely hoping you read my reply.

Thank you, THANK YOU for your comment. I've been worrying about my blog for a while, but it was only very recently that I suspected something was amiss. I was even thinking about stopping blogging altogether, because it can be a frustrating process sometimes - it's not supposed to be! My husband always says "You blog because it makes you happy", and it's true, but sometimes I wonder if it's even worth it.

But now, reading your comment, it makes me feel very, VERY happy, and uplifted. For me, as a small-time blogger, a wonderful and thoughtful comment such as yours always makes my day, and kind of assuring me that I AM contributing something positive out into the world, however important or not important it may be - but it's something positive, and that's always a good thing, at least to me (and hopefully to you and my other readers!).

Thank you so much for your lovely, lovely kind words. They really touched my heart, honestly. It's always nice to hear someone appreciating my work (which isn't often, which makes it extra nice =D). I don't have a huge following, not at all, but reading your comment really does make me feel like it's all worth it, and that what I do doesn't go completely unnoticed.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, Marilee. And THANK YOU for reading my blog! I honestly can't thank you enough, really. Sending love to you all the way from Malaysia! (PS: Do you blog? Would love to read it if you do!)

By the way yes I remember you commenting on my blog! It was on my caftan post, I remember you because of your unique name. I replied almost immediately but I think my readers never get any notification when I do reply, which is frustrating. Thank you for letting me know about the "reply via email", I definitely need to sort that out, somehow!

I hope you're having a great week, and I hope your weekend will be amazing. Thank you, thank you.

  2. Hello again Liyana!
How wonderful to hear from you!! I encourage you to persevere in your blogging despite your uncertainty at this point in time.
I'm sure that it can be frustrating and saddening to put your time, energy, and a fair degree of emotional vulnerability into a blog only to have
less positive feedback than you need to keep on keeping on!! :-0
I don't blog myself but I can tell you that getting a response from the bloggers I follow is really important to me. So, there's no question that it's the key element that makes a bloggers copious efforts worthwhile!
I'm probably one of your older/oldest followers and so my perspective is different than your target audience but for me the "fashions" are the common interest we share but getting to know YOU is 70% of what retains my following. I kept following you despite the lack of response from you! So...YOU GO GIRL!! HANG IN THERE!!
Looking forward to your next post Liyana! :-)

    Love & a hug,
Marilee (I go by my middle name "Judy")

    1. Hi Judy!

Thank you for continuing to read my blog, for believing in me, and for taking the time to leave these thoughtful comments! I feel like I always try to make it a point to reply to my readers who leave comments so it's awful to hear a reader saying they don't hear back from me, so I truly apologise for any mix-up. You've been so lovely and kind. Please do come back for more, because I think I definitely will continue blogging for a little while longer! =) <3

  4. Just letting you know that it looks like your blog is now coming through in a more standard(?) way.
I commented on your last note via email before I clicked on the link that brought me here.
Just wanted you to know that the link worked! :)

  5. I just found your blog through Fake Fabulous. Try not to worry about your temporary dip in numbers (a joke coming from me because I always worry too!). I have friends who have changed designs and people do come back! And there are always seasonal lulls. Just hang in there. Your husband and mine would get along well - whenever I worry he says, but you're supposed to be doing this because it makes you happy. Hahaha. Love your glasses!

    1. I suppose it's normal, isn't it, for bloggers to worry constantly about blogging? I have to admit, it's a relief to hear people who are in the same boat, because it means there's always hope!
My day always gets better when I hear some telling me they like my glasses - a friend of mine just did that for me yesterday, haha, thank you Melanie!

PS: Your style is - for lack of a better word - SICK. Like, in the BEST WAY possible. Can't wait to see more from you!
