Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet Sheer Matte Liquid Lipstick in 07 Plum plum pidou

A liquid lipstick that's formulated to be both matte and sheer? Definitely a first for me! There's a well-known Battle of Liquid Lipsticks out there that have brands clamouring to be the best in both the matte and pigmented areas, so it's kind of refreshing to get a liquid lipstick that's like "I'm going to be different and be sheer, how about that?"

. . . . . . .

Bourjois' newest additions are the Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet Sheer Matte liquid lipsticks. I tried out the shade 07 Plum plum pidou - a nod to Centre Pompidou, I suspect, and probably the same shade as the pops of reds around the grey Pompidou - and I have to say, it's different than any other lipstick I've tried, liquid or not.

The liquid certainly goes sheer on my lips; interestingly, the texture of it really does remind me of souffle (the dessert, that is) - or the filling of souffle, to be more precise. Unlike a regular matte liquid lipstick though, I find that I need to work the liquid into my lips with my finger, because it tends to settle into the cracks in my lips.
But once you work it in, the result can be pretty amazing; I've always loved a natural stained-lips look, and Souffle de Velvet gives me the most realistic stained lips look EVER.

PS: I've been using this trick (from 2013, mah GOD, excuse the bad photos) to get that stained look with regular balmy lipstick, but Bourjois just made it way easier for me with Souffle de Velvet!

I might have to rub the liquid into my lips more than once as it keeps on drying after each rub, but personally, the end result for me is worth the extra steps. I'm excited to see what other shades is available in this range!

A little story about how Bourjois and me go way, way back: Bourjois is a brand that's very close to my heart, as I discovered this brand through the Pixiwoo sisters and Lisa Eldridge (all three are amazing makeup artists and YouTubers from the UK), and it happened around the same time I was travelling to Paris and the UK. Bourjois wasn't even in Malaysia yet so I remember trying to get my hands on as many Bourjois products as I can, without going broke. I can't tell you guys how incredibly glad I was when I found out that Bourjois was finally, finally making its way to our shores a couple of years ago.

I haven't seen the chocolate bronzer yet - have you? Perhaps I missed it? I actually found that it makes a perfect warm blush for my skintone so I really hope I spot them locally soon!

PS: I usually like to see how a lipstick looks like on a person when I'm reading reviews, but unfortunately I don't have a proper pic of me in it, but hopefully these photos give you ideas on how Plum plum pidou is like on me - hugest apologies in advance for having to include a couple of self-indulgent selfies!

Thank you Bourjois Malaysia for sponsoring the lipstick and the Butterfly Project for making this lipstick review happen!
