Geometric Print Maxi Dress & Tied Jacket | Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

So, remember how I was always harping on about finding good long-sleeved maxi dresses? News flash: I found another one that I actually like, guys.
Finallyyy.

I'm usually not a fan of dresses with elastic-band waists but there's just something about the geometric print and the hue of this dress — I want to call it "burnt orange"...? But then I went out of my way to Google "shades of orange" (I know, this is just the way I am, peeps) and decided I like "dark amber" better.

PS: Perhaps you know the names of colours better? You know, like in a way that you don't have to Google it? Because I'm totally open to suggestions!

These photos were taken on my first day in Singapore recently. Right after Shah and I picked up my sister Rina from the airport, we went to our hotel to check in, got refreshed, then headed straight to one of my most favourite spots in Singapore: Gardens by the Bay! Rina has never been so I was excited to show her the Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, and Supertree Grove with its "Garden Rhapsody" light show at night.

On my first visit to Gardens by the Bay in 2017, I had photographed my striped shirt + skirt set at Cloud Forest so this time I was all for shooting my outfit of the day at the Flower Dome instead.

Oh, and one more thing: as her birthday present, I got her my dress, too, only in black! Rina used to call me her "twinnie" to annoy me (it's an inside joke) but I think she also secretly wants to un-jokingly be my twin. Since Singapore was our birthday trip, I thought, well, why not grant her this wish for one day and let her dress like me?

PS: I don't necessarily want Rina to read this post though...especially that last paragraph. You know, just in case.

Anyway, how beautiful is the Flower Dome, guys?
And what do you think about our matchy-matchy maxi dresses?

  1. Dark Amber is perfect!!
This dress is very evocative of the American West and the classic westerns that dominated television programming in the 60's. You look DARLING in it LIYANA! Tina looks very cute as well.
Your styling of the dress with trainers is quite unexpected...I like it!!!
I think this dress will offer lots of styling inspiration going forward because in many ways it's neutral! Teeny plaid and muted bright color = neutral in my book! :-) Is it made of cotton and linen? Love, Jude

    1. Now that you've said that, it's true; I remember seeing plenty of this cinched-in, flared bottom dress on American TV shows!

I don't know what I would match the dress with OTHER than sneakers, to be honest! I'm so dependent on sneakers that I think they should go with EVERYTHING, no exception. I'm just glad it pays off in this outfit, very pleased you like the pairing =D

Oh dear I'm bad with materials, I'm not sure what it's made off, but pretty sure it's not linen. Perhaps part cotton?

I'm thinking to match this with an oversized denim jacket next time (not tied around my waist) and perhaps even a blazer. It looks fine on its own, sure, but I love coming up with options!

  2. I think a denim jacket or a blazer would be great!

  3. I swear you told us before you had a twin! Have I been mistaken all along? LOL. Rina does look like you a lot. I love your maxi dress girl. I think deep amber would be my choice just to replace 'dark' with something a bit more vague and hard to imagine. LOL. I do love the garden scene in your OOTD shoot. Super gorgeous but of course I was really wowed by your outfit and the paragraph about Rina made me chuckle. You are too funny! :p

    1. "Deep amber" does sound more exotic, I like that!

I've joked plenty of times here before about how my little sister is my "twin", because it means people have assumed she and I are the same age (she's 6 years younger than me) and also because she's always joking about it herself (in a way that is annoying as how only siblings can do to each other). Also because I'm always saying the only thing missing in my life is an actual twin since I have one kakak, one abang, one adik lelaki and one adik perempuan, I have them all!

Oooh I just love the indoor gardens of Singapore, they're such beautiful places for a photoshoot.
